Criminal record information

Criminal record checks are optional. If a helper chooses one, they consent separately to us looking at the certificate. We record only the check type, country, certificate date, the last four digits of the certificate number and whether a badge was granted. We delete our copy of the certificate within 30 days of reviewing it, and within 60 days if it is never reviewed. We never keep a list of convictions and never show that a badge was refused. Helpers can withdraw consent at any time, which removes the badge.

ID checks

ID checks are carried out by Stripe Identity. The helper's ID and selfie go to Stripe, which keeps them under its own privacy policy. We receive the result and the date.

Who we share with

  • Families and helpers you are linked with, as described above. Helpers see the older person's first name, town and visit details. They see the doorstep password only around the time of a confirmed visit.
  • Service providers: Hetzner (hosting, Germany), Stripe (payments and ID checks), our email host, and an SMS provider once doorstep texts are switched on. They act on our instructions.
  • Councils and police, only where we need to for safeguarding or the law.

We do not sell data and we do not use advertising trackers.

How long we keep it

Account information is kept while your account is open. Delete your account from the account page and everything linked to it is removed straight away, apart from records we must keep for safeguarding, tax or legal claims.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your information, ask us to correct or delete it, object to how we use it, or withdraw consent. Email us. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
