For helpers

Free for helpers. Always.

You do the gardening, the cleaning, the odd jobs. Families want to know who you are. Wellknown lets them see it, without costing you anything.

  • No fees, no commission. We never charge helpers and never take a cut of your pay.
  • Your prices, your diary. You set your rates, agree visits directly with the family, and they pay you directly.
  • ID check on us. We pay for the photo ID check.
  • Badges that travel. Every family you work for sees the same dated checks.

Getting your badges

  1. ID check (free)Photograph your passport or driving licence and take a live selfie. Takes about three minutes.
  2. Criminal record certificateIn England and Wales apply for a Basic DBS check on GOV.UK (£20, paid to DBS, not to us). Scotland: a basic disclosure from Disclosure Scotland. Northern Ireland: an AccessNI basic check. Upload it and we'll check it within two working days, then delete our copy. Families sometimes cover the fee: just ask.
  3. InsuranceUpload your public liability certificate. Most sole traders pay roughly £85 to £140 a year for £1m to £2m of cover.

All of these are optional. You can join and work with a family without any badges, though most families will want at least the ID check.

The rules (short version)

You help around and outside the house. You never provide personal care (washing, dressing, toilet, eating, medication, or reminders about those), never handle the client's money or cards, never accept gifts or loans, and never drive clients. If you see something that worries you about the person you visit, tell us privately and we'll take it from there. Full helper terms.

Outside the UK?

You can join from anywhere. Outside England and Wales we start with trades: gardening, small jobs, gutters and windows, dog walking and tech help. Criminal record badges are not offered in the US yet.
